David claims to speak for Boulder liberals, but you have to be one first. He's not a liberal, but a libertarian. In Boulder, being liberal means:
1. Being an environmentalist. Thielin doesn't believe in the precautionary principle, and claims that 98% of the people of Boulder agree with him. However, the precautionary principle is a bedrock of environmental science, supported by the Sierra Club and National Resources Defense Council. Prior to the rise of the BOC idiots, at least seven out of nine council members supported this principle (the dissenters being Burger Tom and Rich Lopez). The Sierra Club has just a bit more credibility on environmental issues than, say anybody. If you don't believe in the precautionary principle as it applies to the environment, then you are not a Boulder liberal. Example, David thinks Adam is a environmentalist because he rides a bike. Hello! Don't be stupid.
2. He thinks the free market should regulate itself. Hello! This is not being a liberal. Ever here of safety regulations?
3. He believes that individuals are responsible for their own fates. So if your Hispanic and poor and unable to get an equal opportunity, tough luck, its your fault.
4. He doesn't support Obama, Hillary, or Edwards. His views are pretty close to Ron Paul.
Anyone who calls himself a liberal, proclaims to speak for Boulder, yet is like outlined above, is a libertarian. And your certainly not a progressive. Mainly David is anti-intellectual.

I'd like to start out by saying that I am David THIELEN's daughter, so I feel I would know him somewhat well. First of all even after you have said that you have fixed all spelling and gramatical errors you still have yet to spell his name last name correctly (let me help you T-H-I-E-L-E-N). I know how tough it is to get a sources name right. Second, after living with him for 18 years I can confidently say that he is one of the most liberal people I know. Since when does being a liberal include being an environmentalist. Are you saying that every liberal in Boulder has to be a tree-hugger? I find that insulting and I'm only 18. He's against equal opportunity? That's funny, have you heard of the barbie science fair exhibit that got pulled from Mesa Elementary? That was my younger sisters project and my dad was the one on every news channel discussing how unethical it was to take it down. He also participated in Reading to end Racism at local public schools. Lastly, anti-intellectual? My dad has tested at genius levels and I'm sure completed a higher level of education than you have even heard of. I could continue to go over all the faults you have but I don't have the time. My only request is when you decide to make an argument against someone could you do it with a little intelligence?
Tanya, no one "has to be" anything. Certainly not!
However, your Dad spends his whole day blogging and calling himself a "liberal." Few liberals despise the public school system as he does. Even fewer liberal Boulder residents see protecting the environment as simply another economic issue for the market to deal with.
If David Thielen fits into a political slot, then the label above it reads "Libertarian" in large, clear letters. It's not an insult, just the truth.
I was about to add that the "anti-intellectual" epithet was highly unfair, but you had to repeat a similar insult against this blog's operator, so it seems a bit pointless now.

Thought you would be interested in this little tidbit I came across. David Thielen is the Boulder blogosphere's liberal-poser and master of guilt by association and, guess what? Apparently David Thielen comes from good old Republican stock.
